TechReady

What is TechReady?

"TechReady is a joint program between Bell Aliant and Home Builders’ Associations that trains builders, renovators and subcontractors to properly wire new homes for current and future technology. The TechReady brand assures you that a home has been wired by trained professionals for the latest communications technology in voice, video and data. As people embrace technology at an increasing rate, they expect to be able to incorporate it into their everyday lives, and their homes are no exception to this rule. The TechReady program is designed to train industry professionals to fulfill the lifestyle needs of the consumers. While not all TechReady homes are the same, each is built to a set of standards that must be met in order for the home to be certified but most importantly, each TechReady home has "Structured Cabling". Unlike conventional cabling, "Structured" cabling systems provide maximum flexibility for users to move voice, data and video services throughout their home. To learn more about Structured Cabling click the link in the Products and Services sub-menu above.

What makes a home TechReady?

What defines a home as being TechReady? The basic requirements that need to be met in order for a home to be certified as TechReady are as follows:

1). It needs "Structured Cabling"; To be Certified TechReady, homes must have a certain minimum number of outlets for devices such as phone, Internet, computer, voice over IP, Bell Aliant TV and Internet ready gaming devices; this typically results in twice as many connection points than a conventionally built home wired by electricians. Systems will use a minimum  of type Cat5e and RG-6 wiring. Systems must be installed by specially trained low voltage installers and must meet the ANSI/EIA/TIA 570B standard.

2). Cabling must be run in a star topology back to a central location. The installation of a dedicated media distribution panel (A.K.A. "Distribution Device") that will be used to house any required distribution equipment is also required and all lines inside the panel must be clearly labeled for easy identification.

3). It must be a turn-key installation; All lines must be terminated and connected, all trim plates mounted, and Service Feed entrances must be run from the distribution panel to outside the home; This will allow Service Provider technicians to connect basic TV and Telephone services in only minutes without needing access to any other part of the home other than the distribution panel.
